Beehive to Business: A New Approach with Paul Goldsmith

At our next 'Beehive to Business' you’ll hear from Paul Goldsmith, National's newly minted finance spokesperson, and Steve Sanderson, Chief Executive Wellington International Airport.

Paul will give his perspective on how New Zealand businesses are going and what's ahead for the economy, he'll also discuss the proposals in National’s Economic Discussion Document. Prior to becoming a MP and former Minister in the Key/English government, Paul was an Auckland City Councillor, a biographer and historian, a former beehive staffer under the Clark and Bolger governments, and public servant at the Waitangi Tribunal.

Steve will deliver an update on Wellington International Airport, and how the upcoming changes will support the growth of Wellington's domestic and international tourism visitors.

Speaker Bios:

Paul Goldsmith

First elected off the National Party list in 2011, Paul served as the Chair of the Parliamentary Finance and Expenditure Select Committee. Following the 2014 General Election he was appointed Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs and Associate Minister for ACC. In 2016 Paul was appointed Minister of Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment, Minister for Science and Innovation, and Minister for Regulatory Reform, and served in the Cabinet until the 2017 General Election. He is now Opposition Spokesperson for Finance and Infrastructure.

Before entering Parliament, Paul set up his own business as a historian and biographer focusing on New Zealand’s history and economic development. He has published 10 books, his last were biographies of Alan Gibbs (Serious Fun) and Sir William Gallagher (Legend). Between 2007 and 2010 he served as an Auckland City Councillor.

Steve Sanderson

Steve Sanderson joined Wellington Airport in February 2012. Steve has predominately a career background in infrastructure businesses including Airport, Electricity and Ports. Prior to his appointment at Wellington Airport Steve’s previous key roles include CEO for Queenstown Airport, CEO Dynamic Controls a US owned company, which is listed on the NY stock exchange, General Manager NZ/Australia at Powerco, and General Manager at Lyttelton Port Company.

Steve is currently Chair of New Zealand Airports Association, and is a former Director of Pioneer Generation & Port Nelson.
