BA5 with Malaghan Institute of Medical Research

Date: Wednesday 13 Feb 2019     Time: 5:30pm to 7:30pm

Venue: Malaghan Institute, Gate 7, Victoria University, Kelburn Parade

We are in exciting times. The opportunity to create a healthier world has never been closer. New Zealand’s leading biomedical research institute, the Malaghan Institute of Medical Research, is on the cusp of a revolution in our fight against disease. The Institute is currently researching a new version of CAR T-cell therapy, a revolutionary new cancer treatment which harnesses a patient’s own immune cells to fight the disease, with a clinical trial planned for 2019. It involves modifying a patient’s immune cells (T-cells) in the laboratory, to redirect them against cancer cells. The modified T-cells are then returned to the patient, where they can attack and destroy cancer cells. Earlier versions of this therapy have been trialed in Boston with impressive success.

The Institute invites you to visit our research facility and hear about this life-changing therapy from our world-leading scientists, enjoy a drink and refreshments, and have a tour of the research laboratories to see what’s happening at the Institute.
