Parliamentarians to be introduced to Wellington Business
Date Added: 13th September 2011 from Wellington Employers' Chamber of Commerce
“This event is a wonderful opportunity to introduce parliamentarians to the diverse range of innovative businesses in Wellington and we applaud the Wellington City Council for this initiative,” said Chamber President Jo Bransgrove.
“With a combination of public service cuts, corporate drift and government attention on Auckland and Christchurch, this is a crucial time for Wellington.
“Like it or not government decisions will have a major role in determining where Wellington goes from here and it is important that decision makers have a full picture of what Wellington is about.
“Many politicians don’t get an opportunity to step outside the parliamentary zone and so their exposure to Wellington is limited. This event will demonstrate to them that Wellington is not just a government town and that there is a dynamic and innovative business community based here.
“Most of Wellington’s knowledge-intensive businesses could operate anywhere in the world yet for a variety of reasons - including the compact nature of the city and the range of talented people - they chose to locate themselves here.
“Contrary to the thinking of some, an Auckland presence is not essential for all successful businesses. There is room for more than one commercial centre in New Zealand and sound policies which put Wellington on a level playing field must prevail,” Ms Bransgrove concluded.
