Date: Monday 16 Sep 2019 Time: 12:30pm to 1:30pm
Venue: Level 7, JacksonStone House 3-11 Hunter Street Wellington 6011
If you have ever found yourself hesitating before attempting a Māori place name or word, you are not alone. In a 2013 the NZ census found that only 3% of adult New Zealanders spoke te reo confidently. And this is not surprising because with the many demands on your time, the commitment to learn a new language can be daunting.
Te Hiringa o Te Reo is a language resource designed specifically for those who are interested in learning basic Māori language, but have limited opportunities to attend regular language classes.
Usually run as a 17 week distance learning course, Whitirea have adapted the content for a 6 week course which includes a tutor.
Each student will receive a Te Hiringa o Te Reo Pack consisting of a Work Activity Book that participants can work through in class and at their own pace.
With an increasing need for cultural understanding becoming necessary in modern New Zealand, giving yourself the confidence to use te reo in everyday conversation can help you think differently, improve your communication skills and broaden your career prospects.
