For Octobers Westpac Smarts, John Miles, CEO of New Zealand Marketing Association, will walk you through how to decide which strategies are right for you by looking at your overall offering and the knowledge of your customer. 2020 of course, includes new obstacles for businesses, John will provide his insights of marketing through a pandemic and how to stay connected with your domestic market.

John was the innovator and driver behind the hugely successful WFH Mark Ritson Marketing Bootcamp which MA got onto market in two weeks and started delivering to over 600 marketers within six weeks in May of this year – a true example of innovation and seizing an opportunity. This has been recognised in the New Zealand Effie awards and MA is the only non advertising agency nominated in the Covid sector of the awards.

John is passionate about lifting the status of marketing in New Zealand business. "NZ Business would benefit having more professional marketers on boards as we are trained to look forward in a strategic manner and creatively problem solve. To do this we need to introduce new standards for marketers in NZ and entice young marketers to be involved in our marketing family. At NZ Marketing Association, our focus is members first, last and always and we want to innovate with new programs and products in 2020 and beyond”

John started his career in FMCG and breweries and then moved into advertising and brand development agencies. For the last fifteen years, he has been heavily involved in education meeting market needs, doing this by creating and implementing new products. He also has extensive experience in managing organisations.

He is an innovative management and marketing specialist with a knack for identifying and leveraging business opportunities. With expert knowledge at building strategic partnerships and managing major change while being a creative business development professional. John constantly demonstrates an ability to develop and implement successful marketing campaigns that make a significant impact on the bottom line. His expertise encompasses all aspects of business development, branding and marketing as well as financial management and maximising revenues. A great presenter who can close deals. John has vast experience working in different verticals including having seven years in advertising/brand development agencies. He has always had the philosophy –‘if you don't ask, you won't ever know’ and –‘always give things a go!’.
