Wellington Chamber of Commerce Business Confidence Survey Shows Need For Pro-Business Reform

Issue date

The Wellington Chamber of Commerce’s quarterly Business Confidence Survey highlights the need for Council to prioritize pro-business reform, Acting Chief Executive, Amanda Wood says.

“Nearly 60% of businesses surveyed were very unsatisfied with the Council’s performance in supporting the business community and local economy, with 35% being very unsatisfied with their interactions with Council.”

Businesses were asked if they felt supporting and growing business in Wellington is something that matters to Council – with nearly 60% of respondents saying no and only under 33% of respondents saying yes.

“Recent years have tested us all, with Wellington businesses facing huge challenges and change, so it comes as no surprise that the relationship between Council and business is at a low point. But with new leadership across Wellington, and soon a new Mayor, this is something the Chamber is very keen to play a constructive role in strengthening”.

“Building a pro-business Wellington is in the interest of all Wellingtonians and something the city must pursue as a priority.”
