The Wellington Chamber of Commerce congratulates Mayor Andrew Little and all newly elected members of the Wellington City Council, following the official swearing in of the new Council today.
Acting Chief Executive, Amanda Wood says the Chamber is looking forward to working constructively with the new Council to support a thriving capital city.
"Congratulations to Mayor Little and all the councillors elected to serve Wellington.
"The coming term presents both challenges and opportunities. We look forward to collaborating with the new Council to ensure Wellington is a city where businesses can grow, investment is encouraged, and confidence is high.
"It’s important we take a collaborative, cross-party approach to the city’s growth and that business growth remains as a key part of this conversation. We acknowledge Mayor Little’s committee appointments, which will ensure a broad range of views are represented across key sectors."
Ms Wood says the Chamber remains focused on strengthening the partnership between business and Council and progressing the policy priorities from the Chamber’s Wellington policy report, Green Light Economy.
"Front of mind for the Chamber is building the relationship between Council and the business community, particularly when it comes to creating pro-business policies that address some of businesses longstanding challenges in the city, like the commercial rates differential, spending accountability and giving a greater voice to business.
"We know businesses want stronger engagement with Council, and the Chamber is committed to supporting more constructive and effective dialogue.
"Working together on Wellington’s growth strategy will be key to creating a pro-business Wellington that works for everyone. We’re looking forward to partnering with all councillors to build an open and collaborative relationship."
The Chamber also congratulates all candidates who ran for public office and would like to recognise their contributions to the local debate, as well as their staff, volunteers and campaign teams.
